SKIN ART: Baba Yaga Tattoo Designs

To honor the wild witch of the woods here are a couple of tattoo designs inspired by my favorite Baba Yaga-tale Vasilisa, the wise. The descriptions are all written by me, based on my own goddesses-book and the great Clarissa Pinkola Estés‘ “Women who run with the wolves”.

These designs are very close to my heart with the hut based on a handmade shrine I was gifted and the doll heavily inspired by one of my homemade motankas. The design of the hut is already taken, however all of the others are still available for tattooing.

When Baba Yaga knocked on my door I was both relieved and anxious. My practice was at a standstill. After the release of my goddesses-deck in 2024 I felt burned out, disconnected and uninspired. In 2024 my personal life changed completely, and while I was and still am incredibly grateful for all of the growth and my ‘new’ life, there is still so much to process and integrate.

For a while I thought that I wanted to quit creating pagan art, but I always kept coming back. I’ve learned a lot about myself as a human being and as an artist. I’m taking the time right now to follow the path that I know in my heart is the right one - even though it scares and challenges me.

Baba Yaga showed me that I didn’t change as a person. Instead I peeled back layer after layer, and became more like myself in the process. I am still becoming. Being yourself is scary but oh so worth it. Baba Yaga‘s strength lies in her unapologetic way of staying true to herself. In my oracle deck Baba Yaga’s theme is authenticity and the power of listening to your intuition. Are you being true to yourelf? That’s a question I’d like to leave you with today.
